Seven Principles of the Red Cross Movement
1. Humanity - The International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement was originally started to aid and assist without discrimination ALL men wounded on the battle field. Today the Red Cross promotes health and social well being throughout the communities it serves. It promotes mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace amongst ALL people.
2. Impartiality - The Red Cross will not discriminate against a person because of his nationality, race, religious or political beliefs.
3. Neutrality - In order for the Red Cross to enjoy the confidence of all, the Movement will not take sides in any hostilities, or engage in any political, racial, religious or ideological controversy.
4. Independence - The Red Cross National Societies, while working with other government agencies, and subject the laws of their respective countries, must always maintain their independence, so that at all times they may be able to act, in accordance with the Seven Principles.
5. Voluntary Service - The Red Cross is a voluntary movement, to assist people and is not prompted in any manner by the desire for gain.
6. Unity - There can only be one Red Cross Movement in any one country which must open to all citizens.
7. Universality - The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is worldwide, and all societies are equal and share in the duties and responsibilities of helping the suffering and needy.
