If you are dreaming about an absolutely unique, undiscovered adventure come to the heart of Belize in Stann creek District in Southern Belize, and stay in a Mayan village. Tutzil Nah Cottages is not developed, on occasion, you maybe the only guest. But, no matter, whether you're alone, or in a group, the Chun family gives you attention as only we can. We Gregorio, Ouscal, Julian have over 12 years of guiding experience. And the rest our family will be happy and proud to share our knowledge. We grew up in the traditional Mayan way, living in the jungle of what is now the Cockscomb Jaguar Preserve. We will share with you our knowledge of the birds, plants we eat or use for medicine in the jungle - our home. Vidalia, Gregorio's wife, is a very good cook, offering traditional Mayan and Belize food.
Although our main language is Mopan Mayan, we are all fluent in English. See the country side, We will pick you up at the airport in Belize City; drive you down the Hummingbird highway, transporting you from savannah through the green hills of the Maya Mountain to the Maya Center village, adjacent to the Cockscomb Jaguar Preserve. Your tours and treks will be absolutely personalized to your interests. For avid bird watchers, you could go into the Preserve to hear Julian point out and call to the birds in their songs. Or you could hike into the jungle on 1or 2-day expeditions, rising at 3:00am to learn about the creatures of the night. Run the Stann Creek River of the Cockscomb Basin in Stearn's latest one-person soft shell kayak. The early morning was glorious and kingfishers darted in the water. It is in a real jungle paradise.
Maya Center is a small Mopan Mayan village, with a population of some 300 people located in the Stann Creek District just off the Southern Highway in southern Belize. We are only 10 miles from the beautiful sandy beaches of Hopkins Village and about 25 minutes drive to the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary (Jaguar Reserve.) |
