The Belize Credit Bureau (BCB), formed in 1997, is has become an intricate partner in the development of Belize's micro and macro economies. To date the company has invested over half a million dollars into its services in the form of computer systems, software, and personnel. Our commitment to investment in the company will continue as we develop the credit system in Belize.
In today's ever evolving business climate and the reality of globalization, instant credit decisions are no longer a competitive advantage where consumer credit is concerned, they are a necessity. Any advanced national economy in countries throughout the world must have in place a system dedicated to evaluating the default risk of consumers. Through the use of our credit rating system (1) Businesses will be able to stimulate customer base expansion and sales by extending credit to those who are creditworthy; (2) Consumers will have more access to the goods and services they need by using the option of paying later; (3) Small loans to the working class will be more accessible due to an ease of collateral requirements by financial institutions; and (4) consumers will be more inclined to pay debts for fear of jeopardizing their credit rating among many other things. A credit system means protection for everyone!
The BCB collects information about the payment histories of consumers and uses it to help businesses weigh credit risks and consumers obtain credit. Businesses registered with the BCB may request a Personal Credit Reference (PCR) on any of their customers or an individual may request a PCR on them self. Contained in the actual PCR are the individual's name upon who the PCR is requested, identification # (Social Security, Driver's license etc.), a rating, and a rating key. The information used to compile ratings comes from Belize's largest and most well known businesses. In the execution of our services the utmost care is taken to make sure that all information gathered is accurate. Information regarding the amount or merchant to which a debtor is indebted is confidential and only an individual can request that information on themselves.
