| Description: |
The park is accessible by foot or vehicle from St. Margaret's Village for approximately 10 months a year, depending on recent rains. The park entrance and Education Shelter, near Five Blues Lake, is approximately 3.5 miles from the Hummingbird Highway, and is accessed via Lagoon Road. Once in the park, one may walk the 3 miles of existing trails (see map - click on it for a printable enlargement), explore Duende Caves, take a dip, or take a relaxing canoe ride on the lake. Over-night camping options are available, for $5.00 Bze per person. Bikes and canoes can be rented in St. Margaret's. Trained tour guides knowledgeable in herbal healing and local traditions and folklore can be hired in the village.
We also welcome you to spend the night in St. Margaret's Village and experience Belizean village-life in all its splendor. For your convenience, there are two Bed and Breakfast organizations in the village - the Women's Rising Bed and Breakfast Organization, and the Hummingbird Cabanas Women's Bed and Breakfast Group. For between $30 and $40 Bze you may eat dinner and breakfast and over-night with one of over twenty welcoming St. Margaret's families. Other options in the area include Palacio's Cabanas, along mile 29 of the Hummingbird Highway, and Bellyful Inn along mile 34 of the Hummingbird Highway. Meals and cold drinks are available at Over-the-Top Restaurant and Bar, across from Lagoon Road along the Hummingbird Highway.
For information on any of the above options, leave a message at the community telephone (08-12005) for Mario (Park Board of Directors President) or Terry (Member, Park Board of Directors), or e-mail at fiveblues@hotmail.com, and there will be someone happy to assist. While you may wish to pre-plan your visit, it is not absolutely necessary. Feel free to step off of the oft-crowded bus into tranquil St. Margaret's Village and see why so many people think that the village and the park are so special. Stop by the Park Office, and if nobody is there, feel free to stop by Mario or Terry's house at any time. They will be waiting to accommodate you! |
