This 60 mile stretch of water is sheltered by the second largest barrier reef in the world and contains flats, cayes, channels, mangroves, and river mouths which provide the following fishing opportunities *sight casting to tarpon, permit, and bonefish on shallow flats *blind casting in channels for 40-100+ tarpon *mangrove edges harboring snook, "baby" tarpon, & snappers * river mouth systems holding snook, jacks, "baby" tarpon, and a variety of snappers * trolling the reef for barracuda, wahoo, grouper, snappers, and other reef dwelling species. The proximity of these varied fishing opportunities is such that, if it was your desire, you could fish all the above in one morning without a boat run of over ten minutes. This is an example of the variety available in some areas of Belize. Tarpon fishing in Belize, at its best, doesn't get any better anywhere in the world. At its worst, it's still as good as anywhere else. This is especially true when you consider the comparison to the crowded tarpon flats of Florida. |
